ELŻBIETA BĘDKOWSKA

The living environment of the city centre, its spatial structure, typology and cultural values require sensitive protection and maintenance since they form the basic cultural values being the city’s civilisation legacy. All activities related to this subject, and the revitalisation issues in particular, should be developed and launched in the way allowing protection of the existing housing and introduction of the new housing. The importance of the housing should be one of the principles forming foundations for the proper functioning of the whole city centre. In other words, the city centre housing should be not only protected but also developed and enhanced with other associated uses. To neglect the above-mentioned issues means further decline of the urban fabric and the spatial layout. It is clear, however, that all spatial, social and economical interventions in the city centre should be carefully planned and defined. The method and the estimated results should be also envisaged.
