NEW LINE. SEVERAL THOUGHTS ON ARCHITECTURAL AVANT-GARDE AT THE GENERAL NATIONAL EXHIBITION IN POZNAŃ

SZYMON PIOTR KUBIAK

The analysis of the avant-garde decoration of the stand (design: Henryk Oderfeld) opens considerations regarding the position of modernists at the General National Exhibition (GNE). The situation of the GNE was compared with the contemporary World Exhibition in Barcelona. In reference to the German pavilion erected there (design: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe), one of the very few avant-garde buildings, the authors asks about the role of the Warsaw circles in promoting modern aesthetics in traditional Poznań circles. The key role is attributed to the architect Jerzy Müller, former ministry employee, holding the position of the Chief GNE Constructor.
