PILGRIMAGE COMPLEX IN KROSNO NEAR TO ORNETA – REPORT OF MEASUREMENT ACTIVITIES

WOJCIECH WÓŁKOWSKI

The author present the results of measurement and research activities regarding the eighteen century pilgrimage complex in Krosno Warmińskie near to Orneta, performed by employees of the Polish Architecture Department of the Architecture Faculty of the Warsaw University of Technology (WAPW) and students from the Domestic Architecture Student Circle in 2008-2009. The detailed documentation of the historical monument allowed for the formulation of conclusions regarding the chronology in the construction of the church, cloisters and monastery school adjacent to the North of the building. The oldest part of the entire complex is the church, erected in 1715-20. According to the research, the Southern wing of the monastery school was built first, the shape of cloisters erected slightly later was adapted to it. The construction of cloisters forced a change of the initial concept of the monastery school and elimination of some rooms in the Southern wing to replace them with a part of the cloister. The last stage of the construction was the new Western facade of the church, from the mid 18th century, and the Western part of the cloister bypass, completed in the 1770s.
