REVITALIZATION IN THE HANDS OF CITIZENS – THE BENEFITS AND THE RISKS. A STUDY OF THE HIGH LINE PARK IN NEW YORK

ARTUR JERZY FILIP

The engagement of citizens in revitalization projects is increasingly being viewed as desirable and as a guarantee that such undertakings will be implemented in a sustainable way. There is also a search for more innovative models of managing projects, allowing more duties and responsibilities to be turned over to the community. Using  the High Line project as an example, the author discusses the advantages and dangers of this type of situation (seemingly a model one), in which the revitalization of urban space is led by citizens, from the initiative stage to implementation and finally management.
