GDYNIA AND ZAKOPANE – THE “ZAKOPANE STYLE”, MODERNISM, FUNCTIONALISM. PARALLELISMS AND DIFFERENCES

ABSTRACT

Gdynia and Zakopane are two towns famous in the inter-war Poland, situated, respectively on the Baltic Sea and in the Tatra Mountains. The article aims at comparing their seemingly different architectural make up and showing that in both, even though in different proportions, one can find the heritage of the “Zakopane style”, modernism and functionalism.
