ZYGMUNT ĊšWIECHOWSKI
The book of Edward Dąbrowski, archaeologist, presents the results of the defence system examination of the KroĊ›nieĊ„ska City Gate, located in the Lubuska Land, and covering three towns: Krosno OdrzaĊ„skie, PoĊ‚upin and Gostchorze. This complex played a vital role in repelling the attacks of the German emperor Henry II in 1005 and 1009-10 by King BolesĊ‚aw Chrobry. The struggle of both sovereigns was described in Thietmar’s Chronicle. The chronicle, together with archaeological and topographical research, helped the author to reconstruct the defensive systems and make historical specifications.
