Jerzy K. Kos’s book is an extensive dissertation on the architecture of Silesia in the years 1740–1815. It can be described as monographic in character as it deals with one particular region at a concrete defined time – from the moment when the area was taken over by Prussia to its loss of administrative autonomy at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. In the history of art, this is the period of late Baroque and Rococo, followed by early and mature Classicism. It is an age of transition of styles and therefore more difficult to describe by applying categories typical for art history.
