ABSTRACT

The image of a contemporary city is a manifestation of conflicting capital, social and political influence. Grassroots remedy actions in the form of new designs and investments begin to play an important role in this game of interests. As a result of these actions the landscape and utility value of public space can be recovered and extended. There are initiatives undertaken about large spaces in public parks, degraded sports facilities, undeveloped green spaces as well as small green squares and spaces inside urban developments. Increasing the attractiveness and spatial value of urbanised areas is a matter of primary importance to satisfy the needs of local communities and create the landscape of the whole city.

The aim of the elaboration is to analyse the landscape of Poznań in terms of the value of space, the causes of the loss of space and possibilities to remedy the situation. The research is based on the hermeneutic approach to space and landscape analysis as well as analysis of the literature. It is supported by individual in situ experience, designing practice and educational activity.
