RENEWABLE ENERGY IN URBAN PLANNING ON THE EXAMPLE OF WIND ENERGY

Economic growth in the 20th century was powered by fossil-fuel generated energy systems. Due to very high energy density of fossil fuels relatively small buildings could house generators, supplying energy for vast number of people. As such both urban and rural planning could take place relatively independent of energy generators. In the 21st century the rise of renewable energy sources challenged this old paradigm. Specifically wind energy provides a situation, where communities come in contact with large machines, producing the energy for their use. This paper outlines the current state of planning in context of wind energy and suggests possible rational future approach.
